It has a horizontal groove for sliding jigs left and right, and I''ve made a few jigs to make it easier to sharpen lathe tools, (I''m not skilled at freehand grinding).
This 1quot; belt sander is an excellent sharpening center as well as a handy sander. It removes steel quickly and coolly. It can be used for freehand grinding of a range of tools and is ideal for carving and lathe tools. It does a superb job on kitchen knives. Re: new lee valley belt sander question I have that belt sander and that jig, but I''m pretty sure that they are not made to work together. The jig is made to work with the LV tool rest that is used with a bench grinder. You will see that tool rest on the same page of the catalogue as the jig.
