Instant chilling process is a physical method, which modifies the properties of steelmaking slag for utilization in the cement industry (Montgomery and Wang, 1991, 1992). It is done in four stages. The first is air cooling where the molten slag is placed on shallow plates to a bed thickness of approximately 100 mm and air cooled for 4 minutes.
